The hardcover version is a work of art! The book is very thoughtfully created. (I'm actually tempted to get the ebook version so I don't ruin the book!) Patterns are easy to understand and can be followed by an advanced beginner. Instructions are well written and photos are available for the tougher parts.This would make a great gift for any amigurumi fan, regardless of interest in bugs. I personally have never been more excited about aphids like I was when this book arrived!If you're on the fence about getting this, don't be. You won't be disappointed! I can't wait to make all of the characters!
This book is really well written and the butterflies and bugs come out really cute. The instructions are detailed and accurate as far as the one butterfly that I made.I was disappointed in two things:1. All the bugs, beetles and butterflies are just slightly different versions of certain parts, with all the same main body. I guess this might be a plus if you want to make a ton of them and then you'd get the body down pat.2. The wings are assembled and then added to a belt so that they are removable. The hat is also a removable piece. It's cute that all these parts can be separated, but it adds a lot of complexity that can't really be seen easily. The wings are all double sided, so they come out pretty thick and it's more work than seems necessary.In the end though, the little bugs are very cute :)
Absolutely stunning book. Not only is it chock full of great patterns and tips but it doubles as a wonderful storybook for children. Can't wait till I can finally make a bug or two (just trying to finish up current projects first).
I was initially put off by the first few pages featuring a cheesy story told alongside photoshopped images of the crocheted insects/critters. Then I got to the good stuff: a huge, long, wonderfully detailed set of instructions to make these very clever little toys. I love the way each one has various removable items that take them through the transitions between egg/caterpillar/chrysalis/butterfly (or whatever stages the particular insect has). It appeals very much to my educator's nature, and the author has been very attentive to detail and made her patterns surprisingly accurate when you compare to the real insect, yet simple enough to appeal to children and well-sized for small hands. I could see these being a hit with small babies with rattles inside, or with older children (2-5 yrs, maybe) who would enjoy "dressing" and "undressing" the different creatures through their life cycle. I have ordered the yarn specified -- not hard to find! -- and can't wait to start crocheting.
I have purchased several patterns from Lalylala through etsy and was very happy with them. This book is no different. It has a story that talks about all of the amigurumi dolls you can make. The patterns are easy to follow and they work up quickly. The tutorials and tips in the book can help assist even the newest crocheter (it also can be useful to advanced crocheters as well!). I am working my way through the patterns, and I have found that I enjoyed the process. I look forward to seeing more of her creations!
I have only crocheted a few of the creatures so far but I love them! The book is so clever, the instructions so clear and the pictures so beautiful it is a pleasure to own this book. My kids really like it too. I love that I can crochet the entire life cycle of a butterfly--how cool is that! The patterns are so clever and the story so enjoyable. This is a real keeper. First I bought a digital copy but then I knew I needed hard cover as well as it is so beautifully photographed.
I am so happy to have found this pattern book, I have had so much fun making quite a few of the critters thus far!!! This book is written so well, the story is super fun and the patterns are very detailed with lots of photos!!!! The patterns are simple to follow as well!!! Very well written book, thank you!!!
Cute story! Very clear and easy to understand written patterns! Pictures, pictures and more pictures of everything from how to, supplies needed, hints and what finished product should look like! I don’t know how one reviewer said there are no instructions! Extremely happy with this book! I will post an update to include a finished product.
