This book focuses primarily on mini pies, and offers a lot of really good recipes and ideas. It has a lot of pictures of the finished product that can be very helpful for a cooking newbie. I also like that the recipes are categorized into sweet pies and savory pies. This make it easier to find the type of pie you want without having to know the name of it.
This book was a great find. We have an electric mini pie maker as well as mini pie and mini tart pans for baking in a conventional oven that will now see more use. Abigail has certainly put together a wide range of meat, vegetable, and fruit pies that can be used for both dinner and desserts. I was especially impressed with the "Eggplant Parmesan Tarts" and "Spinach Mushroom Quiches" recipes. Great job! I will probably be looking into purchasing more of her books that are hopefully as good as this one.
I am so excited about this cookbook, because I LOVE pie (as does my partner). While I'm happy to eat an entire apple pie (almost by myself!) the idea of having selection of different types of pies without needing to make full sized pies is awesome! Especially when you start to think about savory pies - it becomes actual meals instead of just dessert. Abigail Gehring's book is perfect - adorable, simple, concise and with gorgeously mouth watering pictures of mini pies. I love her 4 different homemade pie crust recipes that you can mix and match with different fillings options. A great buy for anyone who loves baking and loves pies.
Have only used one recipe so far, but it's a winner! The author gives helpful hints at the beginning of the book for newbie mini-pie makers, and each recipe is on a single page with a full-color picture of the finished pie on the facing page. The only thing that could have been added to make this a perfect book would be the nutritional breakdown for each recipe. I made the apple mini pies, and they are delicious. The author includes several crust recipes, so I used the basic crust recipe, which came out very nice. The apple recipe was easy to follow and so tasty and was enough to make four mini pies.
Very well written. I bought it for the savory more than the sweet recipes. I have made the chicken pot pie and it was very good.
It has many recipes for both savory and sweet mini pies. I've not tried all of them, but the ones I have turned out well and were tasty. Great companion for an electric mini pie maker
These are absolutely wonderful. My grandkids love coming over and making pies to take home. Goes without saying, my husband loves the fact that I can prepare apple, blueberry, etc. pies 'on demand'. LOL Wonderful product and so versatile.
I choose my pie books carefully as I am on a very restricted diet and if a book contains a lot of recipes with ingredients that I can't have, and can't substitute for, then I don't get it. I'm enjoying this pie book. She has clear, instructions (with illustrations)for making pie crust and baking pies in either an electric mini-pie maker, muffin tins, or small pie tins. She has basic recipes for the usual, such as apple pies, but also has some different ones: Pineapple Pie, Apple Cream Cheese Crumble, Blackberry Malbec, Quince, Maple Cream, Banana Dulce de Leche, Shepherd's Pie, Slow Cooker Steak and Guinness, Black Bean and Plantain Empanadas, Cracked Egg Pie, Spicy Chicken and Cheese Empanadas, and a lovely-sounding Eggplant Parmesan Tart which I can't try since I can't have eggplant. It is well-written, and her directions are thorough.
They are cute! Plus that they are handy and bake nice personal pies. We also use them to put spices in before adding to recipe, so I don't miss getting the correct spices.
