Review
'Jasun Horsley is making a habit of writing books everyone should read. Prisoner of Infinity is an engrossing autobiographical/journalistic expedition into the murky frontiers of alien abductions, space exploration, New Age spirituality, cult worship, psi phenomena, near-death-experiences, channeling the dead, etc.--oh, and childhood trauma. Somehow Horsley emerges from his own close encounters with such terrors and seductions sufficiently intact to write an extraordinarily coherent and grounded guidebook for others who may be wandering along these frontiers or about to embark into them. He is "Mistah Kurtz"--come back to tell us all, and he does so masterfully. You have to read this book to feel its power and to fully understand the heart and the depth of its voice, its call, and its challenge to every other soul in evaluating these alternate reality phenomena. Horsley takes readers on a personal journey they should not miss.' -- Gregory Desilet, author of Cult of the Kill: Traditional Metaphysics of Rhetoric, Truth, and Violence in a Postmodern World'Jasun Horsley's Prisoner of Infinity is easily the most important study extant of social/mythological engineering/UFOs/Strieber's continuum. No stranger to trauma, driven by relentless--yet empathetic-- intelligence, Horsley strips out the massive, annoying nonsense that's tainted these subjects since the "heady" days of Adamski, Bowert's Operation Mind Control, the late Jim Keith's more lucid material and Cannon's The Controllers. An incredible--literally mind-blowing--exploration.'-- William Grabowski, contrib. ed. Library Journal; author of Black Light: Perspectives On Mysterious Phenomena'Possibly the most complex problem in the social sciences is what may be called be the "micro-macro transition phase," i.e., accounting theoretically for that mechanism by which individual psyches are made receptive to external waves, or outside suggestions, and turned into instruments for fashioning so-called "history." Jasun Horsley's Prisoner of Infinity is an erudite and trenchant testimony, which, by taking Whitley Strieber's intriguing literary output as its point of departure, delves obstinately into the darker recesses of psychic spaces torn asunder by (child) abuse with a view to reveal the ulterior purposes of these practices. As the investigation proceeds, it unmasks the aesthetic cover-ups that have been created in pop iconography in order to smuggle a sinister contraband into conventional reality. Prisoner of Infinity appears to reveal this baleful drive of greater forces, bent on making our world ever more spiritually flattened, which is to say, animated by a diffuse principle of hierarchized and mechanized violence. A book such as this, which weaves seamlessly literary criticism, autobiographical reminiscence, a reinterpretation of pop counter-culture, and a personal mapping of esotericism's strange maze, represents indeed an important advance in unlocking the mysteries of the "micro-macro transition phase."'-- Guido Giacomo Preparata, author of The Ideology of Tyranny and Conjuring Hitler

I am a regular reader of Jasun Horsley’s articles (on his blog, auticulture.com) and listener to his podcasts (The Liminalist). This book is an exploration of the challenging and nebulous areas of trauma based mind control, the alien/UFO sub culture, transhumanism and the space agenda.Horsley uses the writings of Whitley Streiber as the landscape of his analysis combined with reflections on his own experiences. The exploration synthesises ideas from Freudian psycho analytics, Jungian analysis, consciousness/PSI research, alternative media, conspiracy theory, and other fields to explore the ways in which these areas listed in the first paragraph of this review are inter-connected and directed. The conclusions are not the tired, standard ones but instead challenge the reader to doubt stock explanations and narratives in favour of more complex, nuanced systems and processes. The book also provides impetus for the reader to look into his or her own psyche and experiences and consider his or her own basic assumptions and cultural programming. This book addresses difficult, complex topics, including child abuse and is not for the faint hearted.
If you want to understand what spirituality really is, read this book. Explicitly solving the UFO mystery, it seems to me, is not the true intention of this enlightening book (though it certainly helps demystify most of the UFO literature, esp., Whitley Strieber and Jacques Vallee). Some crucial names and games are missing from this work, but this is understandable and unavoidable for such an ambitious and successful work.If you're an honest and self-aware seeker, and especially if you have an interest in UFOs, space travel, or artificial intelligence, you would be wise to read this.I don't agree with Jasun's critics who claim he is trying to reduce the UFO phenomenon to psychology. They need to read more carefully, because this realm is nuanced...Prisoner of Infinity makes Vallee look superficial and concrete. This book functions as a guide to discern genuine spirituality from social engineering. It may help you develop a sense to recognize false, trauma-based spirituality, which is everywhere: in UFO literature, in common and uncommon meditative practices, and even in standard psychology.
One of the best books I've read this decade, and easily one of the best books in all of UFOlogy, this intensive investigation into Strieber's literary landscape is probably the best specific antidote to the neomainstream 'hardware' saucer cult of Tom DeLonge & friends, exposing the subtle psychological software which has enabled 'alien abduction' to become the modernist archetype of religious experience.
Someone who actually did research. Free thinking. Not for everyone because it will be challenging and not typical New Age woo woo maerial. Actually had to work through things to get to where he is, which I like. This isn't the book that the true woo New Age beliver or the "aliens are amazing and we are one" believer should read. For anybody else, that isn't down for communion with the aliens, they should read this. Most of the conclusions presented in this book are ideas that would constantly pop into my mind when I was reading Freud, Jung, and Lacan in relation to Jacobs, Mack, Turner, or even Streiber. The U.F.O and abduction field is in desperate need of books like this one. Personally, I'm not a fan of the whole become a robot that Jasun describes with many individuals that wish to live forever in their ego and want to fly around endlessly in the vacuum of space as husk like automatons that may have lost all ability to see different perspectives do to a predetermined reality where everyone seems to think the same thing and has lost all free will in the process. Somehow the hive mind is the coffin perhaps or the box that entraps you. Possibly. The analogy of a flashlight used as consciousness is a good example for this idea. I view it more as a dot or path that one follows and over time the path keeps narrowing and all possibilities are pretty much thrown out the window as it keeps narrowing in vision and scope until that's all that's left. All people have to do is look at the beings themselves as a case book example of what happens when human beings lose their humanity. Presumably, the dark eyes that abductees describe speaks to a womb like process that the beings have made due to an ability of repressing their own trauma permanently and are just the latest victims of being controlled or shaped into what another thing desires. Abduction testimonies shows various screen memories and disassociation of trauma occurring to the body and psyche. The beings must want this to happen and probably are instigating this in various ways we don't know about. Some have discussed the black boxes with abductees and that is well again disassociation and fragmentation of the psyche like the various multitude of examples. If we really want to push it though, incarnations themselves speak to a disassociation and fragmentation if we want to go down the gnostic root. The father and son complex does speak to psychological trauma, disassociation, and fragmentation, where the beings are probably committing the action at the end of the day for no apparent reason. Parenting or guardianship is still abuse as the books notes.Books like this one makes one wonder if most of the stress conducted on the masses with alarming rates of depression, suicide, and environmental destruction, where technology is pretty much making people unwell and isolated isn't being down on purpose. Potentially millions have been wiped out already in the name of progress and maybe this is really being done just to be a prisoner of infinity on a mass scale if we connect this to transhumanism and the constant intrusions of technological singularity. Sort of like create a situation where one has no choice, but to pick this option.Ultimately, I think there is no reason whatsoever that society had to be built this way or even needs to continue to go in the direction its going. People can make all the excuses they want and so could the beings themselves. But at the end of the day it seems that humans have been making their own story and making it up as they go along through the ages. Accept, no one knows what the larger goal is. Leaders appear to be doing the same thing and yes do have an agenda. Example "Christianity no longer works let's create a new paradigm to control people through a new age lens." Humans could still be living in the wilderness and ironically, were more free then they were compared to now. I think humans are under more control then they have been in thousands of years. I mean in the middle ages you were just thrown out of the kingdom. Is that even an option now?Humans are certainly in desperate need of a self-reflection day on a mass scale, as in what are we actually working toward and what is it that we actually want. If we don't know, then well...there you go. But at the end of the day there is something really disappointing about this on a mass scale all the beings that were watching if they were real (which is debatable) have a lot of explaining to do and at the end of the day no matter what they say or do, it will never make up for what they did. Streiber's latest book speaks of revolution but that is pretty absurd because it just means the next ruling class will just take over and give the latest update and newest variations to control people. Sort of like humans are evolving in this direction so we must be ahead of that, control and meld them into what we desire etc. Those are just my thoughts and ideas it generates. Overall, this was a great book got me thinking and that doesn't happen too often with these type of books.
Amazing book read by someone who thinks he was visited by a being from way way in the future, experienced extreme trauma that included near death experiences and can laugh about it all. I couldn't put this book down and am rereading it. Mr. Horsley showed me how to look at my otherworldly experiences from different places which is refreshing. He is not afraid to share his disillusionment with individuals who influenced him greatly but then let him down. Read this book.
