Very informative and well written by someone who has learned by trial and error and the mentoring of others. Of all the artifact books that I have purchased, this one is my favorite. It isn't overly technical, or scientifically written, and every thing is explained in a way that makes you think, or re-think the processes that you have been using to hunt artifacts. I have wasted literally hundreds of hours hunting in areas other than those that he recommends. Now I try to think more like he does, and my success rate has increased. Also, Thanks for the autograph Willie. That was a very unexpected but delightful surprise. If you are ever in Texas, my granddaughter and I would love to go on a hunt with you, and be mentored by the best! Thanks again. Rose
I grew up hunting arrowheads on our farm in Tennessee but haven't done it in over 40 years. Bought this book to rekindle my interest and try to learn how to find points in California. I was hooked after the first picture of an arrowhead. Highly motivated now to start doing my homework and finding points again!! The book will give novice and expert hunters some great ideas on where and how to hunt. My only frustration (not with the book) is that I can find almost nothing online about laws in my state.
OK... So I am a Texas Arrowhead hunter and I love to research learn new things all the time. Well bout 3 months ago I came across this book on my kindle and so I decided I had to get it... and I began to read it and it was great and just couldn't put it down. Now I would Consider myself anExperienced Arrowhead hunter but after Reading this book it open my eyes to things I just never really seen before... Since reading this book my productivity while out arrowhead hunting has definitely increased. So I'm gunna say if your the least bit curious.. buy this book, you will not regret it. Some great tips, I read this book and went to a couple places I knew had arrowheads. Kept a few of his tips in mind and had 2 days of multiple finds. Coincidence? Maybe but iI seemed to have more confidence in what I was doing therefore a stronger focus. It's a little wordy about boats and safety but I can see where some people might need that info. Enjoyable read and some good info. BTW, I already found all the arrowheads so don't even bother looking :)
As someone who has been hunting artifacts for about 15 years I can tell you this guy knows what he's talking about. I started out as a kid finding artifacts and without any mentor there was a lot of trial and error involved and I really wish I had this book back then. I was actually surprised at how much of this information I had already figured out on my own but the book was still full of methods that were new to me. The chapters on locating indian camps and methods for digging artifacts are going to be very useful for me and I've already come up with a few likely spots. I gave it a 4 star rating because some of the chapters contain a lot of information geared toward areas of the country like Missouri where the author is from. The chapters on exploring with boats, kayaks, ect simply doesn't apply to me and I skipped the entire section because the creeks I hunt are too full of obstacles to make boating practical. I also skipped much of the section about locating underwater artifacts and how to build underwater viewers because the water here in the Deep South is the color of an old leather boot and impossible to see through. This is still very useful information for some folks and its nice to know how incase I travel to these areas but hunting artifacts down here involves some variables that the book doesn't cover. Having said that I still found it very informative and plan on using this book as a field guide. Veterans and beginners alike will learn something from this book without a doubt but a beginner will get the most out of it. My artifact hunting sort of plateaued a few years ago because I only hunt one indian camp but the I'm certain some of the information I learned here is going to help me get to the next level.
Really enjoyed the book. Was a fast read and and easy to follow. It showed some very simple ways to locate Native American camps and the ideas to understand where to look. The only down side (and it's just for me) is that the majority of the methods would be better suited to a different area that have more hills and moisture such as Missouri, Tennessee, etc. and I am in the panhandle of Texas and it's a little different here. Great book thought. In addition, I contacted the author for some more advice and he actually replied! Awesome!
My husband read this e-book start to finish. Some very good inside information. Now if only we could find some arrowheads!
Too much space taken up by information about boating and safety, most of which is just common sense. If you've already done some arrowhead hunting, you might find the book to be a little too bare-bones basic. I'm far from being an expert, but I found myself skipping over some sections. It was probably worth the $10 ebook price, but I'm glad I didn't spend more.
